Dark ruby-red colour with black and purple hues, lighter edged, the bead is fine and moderately persistent. The bouquet is fresh with moderately concentrated aromas of dark-red and black berried fruits, savoury plums and boysenberries, and subtle herb and nutty nuances. Off-dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate features a sweetly rich and bright core of dark-red berry and black plum flavours with savoury and nutty boysenberry notes. The mouthfeel is rounded and creamy in texture with soft effervescence, balanced by fresh, lacy acidity. The wine flows smoothly along a finely extracted, velvety line providing a guiding structure, carrying to a creamy finish with sweet and savoury black plum and boysenberry notes. This is a rich and creamy-textured individual sparkling red with sweet and savoury plum and boysenberry flavours and smooth, velvety flow. Match with poultry, pork and barbecued dishes over the next 3+ years. A blend of 70% Malbec and 30% Syrah from the Middle Wairau Valley, fermented to 12.5% alc., with 18 g/L dosage, the wine spending 5 years on lees, and disgorged on 27 September 2016. 18.0/20
