Forrest Late Harvest Gewurztraminer 2007
Our first Late Harvest Gewurztraminer is made from vines grown on our home vineyard at Renwick. Classical Marlborough Wairau River Valley gravely soils – free draining, devigorating and warm: ideal for producing small berries packed full of flavour. Harvest was delayed 28 days to mid May by which time the berries had shrivelled, sugars had increased to 27 Brix) and the flavours had concentrated. Hand harvested fruit was gently processed, left on the skins for four hours and then pressed off for cold settling, cool fermentation, fining, finishing and bottling in late August.

Tasting Notes
Our first Late Harvest wine using this most exotic variety, and, when you try it, I hope you agree it will not be our last. Picked in May, the deep golden colour hints at its complexity – cinnamon, ginger, orange and honey flavours twining together. The texture is unctuous and seductive, yet restrained, with 90g/l residual sugar it still retains a lovely freshness and delicacy. Nostalgically evoked childhood memories of pink smoker lollies!
